Building the Next Cure, Faster

Our Mission

Accelerate high-quality chart abstraction
for every research and clinical team.
Brim exists to make chart abstraction simple, scalable, and repeatable.

We help teams move from unstructured clinical notes to trustworthy, structured insights with confidence, using powerful, easy-to-use AI-guided tools designed for real-world research and clinical workflows.

Our Story

Where Brim Began
Brim Analytics grew out of Dan Fabbri’s work at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC), where he saw firsthand how researchers and clinicians struggled with manual chart abstraction. The process was slow, inconsistent, and difficult to scale, yet critical insights remained locked inside unstructured clinical notes.

The Democratized AI-Guided Chart Abstraction Platform (DAGCAP) was created to offer a simpler, more transparent way to extract meaningful data from clinical text without requiring expertise in software development or machine learning.

In 2024, the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) awarded $1.9 million to support development of DAGCAP, followed by an additional $2 million in 2025. The project focuses on building easy-to-use tools that allow researchers and clinicians to abstract structured data from notes using large language models.

Since launching in 2024 as Brim Analytics, Brim's AI-guided chart abstraction platform has been used for over 100 projects at VUMC and deployed at institutions across the United States.

What we Do

Prepare notes for visits

AI-Guided Abstraction

Brim uses large language models to support complex, layered clinical variables with outputs grounded in source evidence. The platform is flexible and designed to help teams get started quickly without sacrificing rigor.

Human-in-the-Loop Review

Brim enables researchers and clinicians to review, refine, and adjudicate AI-generated results with clear evidence for every value. Human expertise remains central, supporting consensus-building, quality assurance, and trust in the final data.
Multi-site research

Secure by Design

Brim runs within your institution’s infrastructure and LLM endpoints, ensuring your data stays under your control.

Security, privacy, and compliance are foundational, not afterthoughts.

Team

Dan Fabbri

Founder, CEO

Daniel Fabbri, PhD, FAMIA, is Co-Founder and CEO of Brim Analytics, and an Associate Professor of Biomedical Informatics and Computer Science at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. His research focuses on data management and machine learning applied to electronic medical records, including early privacy and security work that led to the creation of Maize Analytics, acquired in 2021 and again in 2022. His projects have been funded by the National Science Foundation, NIH, and the Department of Defense, supporting tools for patient engagement, efficient chart review, and clinical data quality. Dan also serves as Vanderbilt’s Director of Informatics Innovation and has taught and mentored students across the big data and biomedical informatics programs.

Betina Evancha

Founder, CPO

Betina Evancha is Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer of Brim Analytics. She leads product strategy and user experience, focusing on making complex clinical workflows simple and transparent.

Before Brim, Betina led the product management team at Peloton, driving product strategy and research across the hardware and software portfolio. She has also built weight loss software at Noom and provided Product Management consulting in fields ranging from nonprofit management to hiring for live events. Betina is committed to building tools that enable researchers and clinicians to extract high-quality insights from medical records with confidence and ease.
